Batawa Ski Hill Wedding » Alex and Jake
This Batawa Ski Hill wedding post is long overdue! My Goodrich Loomis Conservation Area engagement session with Alex and Jake was one of my all time favourites, so it was no surprise that their wedding is high up on that list, too! Alex and Jake are adventurers like me, and it showed in their plans for their wedding.
Alex and Jake got ready in Trenton at two hotels across the street from each other – very handy for me to take getting ready photographs! Jake’s preparations at the Ramada Trenton were filled with learning how to tie a handkerchief and some last minute ironing. Alex’s preparations at the Comfort Inn Trenton were filled with trying to get heirlooms onto the bouquet and bridesmaids trying to avoid too many tears!
Once we arrived to the ceremony location at Batawa Ski Hill, guests were already enjoying hot chocolate and finding their seats at the bottom of a gorgeous hill leading up to the ski hill while listening to the guitar playing and singing of Alex’s brother. Perhaps my favourite moment of the ceremony was the tree watering ceremony. When a nature-loving bride and groom get married, it makes sense that they would involve their family members in a meaningful nature-inspired tradition.
For our portrait session, we hiked up the side of the ski hill and Alex and Jake did this with style in their wedding gear! We spent quite a bit of time at the top of the hill, venturing into the forest with a blanket and taking advantage of the stunning overlook of the Quinte area. We decided to go down the main ski hill to get to the reception, as on we’re on our way down we hear a groomsman yell out, “there’s poison ivy all at the bottom of the hill!” Not what we were expecting, but we bravely continued down, got some hilarious photographs in the meantime, and thankfully ended up poison-ivy free!
Since all of the wedding events were in the morning, there was a deliciously catered wedding brunch for the guests to enjoy, complete with a full breakfast, mimosas and bags of freshly ground coffee as wedding favours. Everything was all wrapped up just after 2 p.m.! This is a great idea for couples who would like to try an alternative to the night time dance-filled weddings.
I loved this local adventure wedding so much – not only were Jake an Alex an absolute joy to work with, but it inspired the direction that I would like to be going in my photography. The Belleville, Prince Edward County and Quinte areas are stunning spots for destination weddings – even for locals! Here’s hoping that I will get to do more adventurous intimate wedding photography in my future!
