Dundas Peak Adventure Session
This Dundas Peak adventure session was planned in a short period of time, but was a long time coming! Moving towards adventure weddings and adventure sessions has been a natural transition for me. Even early in my career, I found myself most often connecting with couples who enjoy spending their time outdoors and wanted that feeling captured in their photographs. Some of my most memorable sessions were spent exploring memorable places, like Petticoat Creek, Batawa Ski Hill, Little Bluff Conservation Area and Presqu’ile. Adventurous people deserve adventurous photographs, and that’s what I love to provide for my clients. As an avid adventurer myself, I place immense value on exploration and discovering new sights. It makes sense for me to value these things in my business as well!
When I mentioned the direction I was heading with my business, Sharon and Peter jumped at the opportunity to have some anniversary adventure photographs taken! Peter loves waterfalls, so for our adventure session, selected Dundas Peak which is part of the Niagara Escarpment. Tew Falls are the tallest waterfalls in the Hamilton area, and only are only 10 metres shorter than Niagara falls! The advantage of this spot is that there is a wide variety of landscapes to choose from! So on a frosty Saturday in February, away we went!
There are two trails that we did here to get amazing views. The first trail, we went up! This is a fairly easy trail that takes you to the view point of Dundas, Ontario. The views of Dundas are gorgeous – it looked like a tiny holiday village! The wind this day was something else! Sharon and Peter did an amazing job braving the elements to get some epic shots with the overlook. A good friend of mine called them the Pride and Prejudice shots when she saw them! Layers paid off here, as Sharon was able to work the beautiful flowing skirt in the wind, but base layers helped keep her warm.
For the second second trail, we went down! (Well, around and down) And after driving to the entrance for the falls, we hiked for about 45 minutes past some dodgy spots (due to the ice), and we made it to the gorgeous frozen falls. I’ve never seen anything like it! For safety, we could not get a straight on angle of the falls, but you can tell even from the side how impressive they are.
I absolutely adored doing this Dundas Peak adventure session with Peter and Sharon. Why are adventure sessions so special? The biggest perk of an adventure session is that we have time to explore! Adventure sessions are incredibly relaxed. I treat them as going on a hike with friends, and stopping for some photographs along the way. The relationships I build while adventuring are just as valuable to me as the images that we make together! Another perk of an adventure session is openness to possibility for locations. Planning a camping trip in Algonquin? Hiking the Niagara escarpment? Boat tripping on the Thousand Islands? All of those experiences would make perfect adventure sessions! It’s easy being an adventurous photographer in Ontario because there are so many beautiful places to visit and photograph. If you’re planning an adventure, get in touch to have me document your journey in an authentic and meaningful way.
