So this was my first time submitting images to the infamous annual Shoot and Share Contest. It’s a unique contest for photographers because 1) there is no entry fee and 2) the voting and submission process is anonymous. If you haven’t seen it before, it works by showing you four photos of a category at one time. You choose your favourite image of the four on the screen and repeat until your hands get sore/you’re starving/you pass out (it’s addictive!) Each photo is seen a certain number of times before the highest selected photographs move onto the next round. There are 12 rounds before the finalists and top winners are chosen.

So, since it was my first time I played it light and submitted 24 out of a possible 50 entries. I knew I had a photo that was making it pretty far based on my increase in ‘likes’ but I had no idea which photo was still in the running! I know I was not alone sitting on pins and needles waiting to see who the winners were and to see how we all placed. The results just came out and I did so much better than I expected. I am pretty stoked about it!

Top 10%

I had one photograph place in the top 10% of its category! Wedding and Couples is the biggest category, so I am super honoured that it made it so far.

Wedding and Couples (from Caitlin and Jeffrey’s Wedding) was voted number 1,069 out of 36,983!! This is one of my all time favourite images, which is why I selected it for my brand new business cards earlier this year. It’s a great feeling to know that other viewers were so attracted to it when voting.
