Elope in Toronto
If you want to elope in Toronto, there is so much more that you can do than go to City Hall and call it a day! The day you elope is still your wedding day. Make it an extra special day for you and your partner by filling it with things you love to do! Remember, the definition of elopements have changed – it doesn’t just have to be a quick getaway with the two of you. Your elopement day can be thoughtful and filled with amazing experiences. Even if you initially dreamed of a large wedding, you can still include some of your close family and friends. Here are some ideas to help you plan how to elope in Toronto!
City Hall Elopement + Day Out
A City Hall elopement can be a lot of fun! Once the legal part is out of the way, the rest of the day can be whatever you want it to be. Travel to the waterfront, go to a restaurant, or do one of your favourite activities together (or all of the above!)! Toronto is a huge city with so many possibilities for a post-elopement activity. If I was going to elope in Toronto, it would be a tie between wandering the Annex (it’s where my husband and I first met!) or heading over to the Toronto Islands! Meagan and Blair grabbed a drink at their favourite bar before wandering around their favourite Toronto streets!
City Hall Elopement + Restaurant Celebration
Monica and Florian had their legal ceremony at Toronto City Hall. After some couple’s portraits at the University of Toronto it was second ceremony time! Monica’s sister officiated their ceremony for their family and friends at Le Select Bistro. Even though they had had their “official” ceremony earlier in the day, the emotions were at their highest during their restaurant ceremony. The moment they read their vows was so meaningful – there was not a dry eye around! Having a restaurant elopement in Toronto helps take care of a ton of planning, plus it is a delicious way to celebrate!
City Hall Elopement + Backyard Bash
Auburn and Mike had a City Hall elopement before hosting a backyard party for their family and friends. Like Monica and Florian, their backyard ceremony was officiated by a close family relative. They had worked hard to build their first home together. Reading their vows in the yard they had built was filled with memories and meaning. If you don’t have a backyard handy, perhaps the backyard of a close friend or neighbour will do the trick! You can have your backyard elopement catered, or make it a casual pot luck.
Elope at a Wedding Venue
Many Toronto wedding venues have been expanding their offerings for elopements! Since elopements are no longer the stereotype of running off in secret, there are many vendors who are passionate about helping couples plan dream elopements. Some have weekday elopement and small wedding specials! Kira and Sean had a small wedding at Kortright Centre for Conservation – a dream for forest lovers!
Elope Outdoors
There are many places just outside of Toronto where you can elope or host a small wedding. My favourite spot outside of Toronto for elopements is Whispering Springs. They now have a dedicated spot on their property with elopement packages that that are perfect for a weekend elopement getaway!
Another beautiful elopement location is Black River Retreat in Tweed. They offer all-inclusive elopement packages! Get married by the water and enjoy a romantic evening in the hot tub or by the water afterwards!
Planning Your Elopement
If you want to elope in Toronto, there are so many different possibilities! Remember, your wedding day is about you and your partner and it should represent what you value and love most about each other. Whether your elopement is indoors or outdoors, with guests or no guests, fancy or casual, spontaneous or super planned, your wedding day matters and you will cherish the memories you make together.
