Shoot and Share Contest Results 2019
Shoot and Share Contest 2019
Another year, another Shoot and Share contest! It’s an anonymous contest that gets bigger and bigger every year! You can check out my blog post from last year here – https://jalsphotography.com/shoot-share-contest-results/ – to learn more about the contest! “All in” is when you submit the max number of 50 images for voting. I *almost* went all in this year!
Each category for the Shoot and Share Contest has a varied amount of submissions. For example, the largest category is Engagement/Couples with 48,578 images submitted! Weddings and Couples category comes in next with 45,058 images. There are 12 rounds of voting for the contest, and the first milestone (top 30%) comes after 6 to 8 rounds. The next milestones are top 20%, top 10%, finalist, and then top 100!
I am very pleased with the results! Some images did not place as high as I would have thought, but it all works out in the end! Since I am so attached to all of my couples, their stories, and as a result, their images, this is a great exercise for me. Contests like this help me push myself to think more objectively and keep growing as a photographer.
Top 10%
Here are the photographs that made the top 10%! This is one step before Finalist, which is image that nake the 12th round in their category. In this milestone, I have a romantic wedding image that I took of Monica and Florian at University of Toronto. The other two are from my travels to the Canadian Rockies. My best performing image overall made it to the top 3.8% in the Travel/Landscape Category!
Top 20%
Last year I had a smaller amount of submissions and none of them made it to the top 20%. This year, it was my biggest! The best performing photo in this milestone was the top 11.9% of the Travel/Landscape category (so close to top 10%!!)
Top 30%
These images made the top 30% of their categories! These images are some of my favourites, so I’m glad that they placed! Here I have an image from a destination wedding I photographed in Haliburton, a wedding image from the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory and an adventurous engagement for Jules and Scott who flew to Ontario to get married.
Shoot and Share Contest 2019 – Honorable Mentions
So this isn’t an official milestone, but I had a couple images that made it soooooo close to the Top 30%! The first photograph from a Whispering Springs forest wedding made it to the top 32% percent. The other, from a styled elopement with the Adventurers workshop placed at the top 30.7%.
And there you have it! Another Shoot and Share Contest come and gone. I am so pleased that 14 of the 46 images I entered did so well! Here’s hoping for even more next year!
